Final domestic Star Wars poster

Lucasfilm released the final domestic Star Wars Revenge of the Sith movie poster for Episode III. The movie poster, illustrated by famed poster artist Drew Struzan, represents one of the rare examples of a modern one-sheet poster rendered via traditional illustration. Although Struzan provided the illustration(s) used in the poster, it does not mean the movie poster art was not revised by Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox. According to Struzan:

“The original design did go through the normal incarnations. The finish is two paintings combined as I designed them. Someday the drawings and paintings will be seen but this is the poster and the design approved by Lucasfilm.”

[…] The painted movie poster seems to have become a thing of the past, but one of the great things about those old Star Wars posters, which I came to appreciate over the years (as I saw how many there really were), was the variety of different interpretations of the films there were. For the Prequels, we just got 1 poster for each movie, by Drew Struzan, which themselves were more like Photoshop montages. I think Drew’s style works really well in all the Indy posters he has done, the warm colours evoke the early 20th century corn-gold kind of feeling that fits the movies period setting, but it doesn’t sit well for me with the collage style Star Wars posters he has done. Struzan said himself, that his poster for RotS was a combination of 2 separate concepts he did, which Lucasfilm spliced together. […]
